The Zadok Institute presents
WORLDLY
PEOPLE DOING THEOLOGY - A DAY FOR REFLECTION AND DISCERNMENT
 |
A One-day Zadok Retreat
was held on the 26th May 2002 (9.30am
- 4.30pm) at the home of Clive and Lynlea Rodger in Mugga Way, Canberra.
A group of 15 people attended from as
far away as Wollongong and the South Coast of NSW. From Canberra
we had several public servants who have been involved for many years
in Zadok, and are now finding themselves in senior positions in
public administration.
Our focus was to explore whether a new
approach to theology is emerging alongside the traditional 'social
locations' of theological thinking (the church and the seminary)
|
Focus
The focus of the day was to provide an
opportunity for theological reflection with a personal focus on the vocational
and social dimensions of discipleship in Australia today. More specifically
the retreat sought to encourage reflection, personally and communally,
shaped by the stories and questions of the people attending.
Some
of the questions addressed were:-
- Is
theology emerging from the social location of secular life different
to theological thinking from church or academic contexts?
-
What are the primary qualities and possibilities of such a theology?
- What
does this 'third way theology' offer to the contemporary people of God?
The retreat
was facilitated by:
Jim Barr
Director of the Zadok Institute and Pastoral
Associate of Melbourne Citymission, Jim also works as a private
consultant with an abiding fascination with theology.
Doug Hynd
A former staff member ofhe Zadok
Institute, now involved in writing and public administration, Doug is
the ACT area co-ordinator for Zadok.
